Crossing of the Dan

The Commemoration of the Crossing of the Dan will be held Thursday through Saturday,
February 12th to 14
The 2026 with events to honor those brave men of General Greene’s Army who
crossed the Dan in 1781 and Halifax County men and women who supported them.
This three-day event has grown over the years to encompass the entire Halifax County community
and is recognized as a National Event for the Sons of the American Revolution. The commemoration
has also resulted in a significant number of out of area visitors who participate or watch these
activities and patronize local businesses.
We rely solely on voluntary sponsorship to conduct this event. All sponsors are listed in the program
provided to guests and illustrates the donor’s Patriotic commitment to our community and this
annual celebration. We also recognize sponsors in our local newspapers.
To assure continuation of this nationally recognized event that aided in securing independence for the
American colonies, we are asking for your financial help. As always, it takes the support of the
community to help defray the costs of this Nationally recognized educational commemoration.
Donations are used to fund student awards, speakers and to offset other expenses associated with this event.
As local business owners and historians, you benefit from people attending our programs. Your
contribution allows this unique celebration to continue. Contributors outside of Halifax County can
take satisfaction in preserving our American history. Please consider a contribution, no matter how
